FAQs

What is Fall Line Music Academy?

FLMA was started by Russell Myers and Jane Watson. We are local musicians who have played and toured professionally. We choose only the most qualified and experienced teachers in the Augusta area. All of our teachers are specialists on their instruments and have many years of performance and teaching under their belts.

How long have you been teaching?
FLMA is new, but our teachers have a combined performance and teaching experience of over 50 years. Many of whom taught through the Columbus Music Workshop in Columbus, Ohio.

Why should my children play an instrument?
Studies have shown that children who play an instrument for 2 years or more score better in science and math and score higher on standardized tests and college entrance exams. They also develop better life skills.  You can read more about this HERE.

Do I need my own instrument?
Yes! It is important that your child have his or her own instrument as daily practice is a crucial part of learning to play. We can help you decide if purchasing or renting an instrument is the best choice for you.

Where can I get an instrument?
We have a limited number of instruments available for rent or purchase. If we don’t have what you need, we’ll help you get it!

How do lesson fees work?
Lesson fees are paid monthly. There are no LONG quarterly or semester contracts. However, once the fees are paid, there are no refunds.  We are happy to give you your lessons though!

How often will I have a lesson?
You and your instructor will choose a time when you will meet weekly thoughout the year.  Vacation and holidays are scheduled a year in advance and are posted on this website.

What do you mean by vacation time?
Lesson fees are based on 4 lessons per month.  However, because of how some months fall, you may have a 5th lesson.  We teach that 5th lesson and will then use that date as a make-up at another time during the year.

Is it OK to miss a lesson?
If you know you’re going to be gone more than 24 hours in advance of your lesson, we’ll work that into your schedule and find an alternate time. If something unexpected comes up within 24 hours of your lesson, we’ll try to find a time for a makeup lesson, but we can’t guarantee it.

How often should I practice?
Daily practice is very important to the learning process.  It is the repetition that the body and the brain goes through that creates the playing expertise.  Without practice, it is impossible to gain in proficiency on an instrument.  We recommend that beginners establish good practicing habits by practicing 20 minutes a day at least 5 days a week.  This increases will increase over time. Ask your teacher if you have any questions about practicing.
